Base Isolation 101

The principle of base isolation is preferred method around the world for protecting buildings & bridges from earthquakes.

Seismic base isolation works by decoupling away strong ground shaking and vibrations at the sub-structure (or ground level). This protects the superstructure placed above it. Additionally, the decoupling action of a well-designed isolator can dramatically reduce the pathway through which damaging vibrations travel.

WorkSafe Technologies™  applied this method to the protection of critical business infrastructure, IT equipment, and nonstructural components. They introduced ISO-Base™ and its patented Ball-N-Cone™ rolling isolation technology over twenty years ago.

Our Ball-N-Cone™ rolling isolation system is far superior to other isolators on the market when used on non-structural components. This is due to their scalability and overall simplicity of their design. Isolators used on buildings and bridges are much more complex and require exacting precision, unlike rolling isolation systems. This makes them less practical and far more expensive, for use on infrastructure equipment.
